Take a male-female duo for the splash of glamour (one a steamy Latin type, the other a sexy blond), get the buzz going with an Ipod commercial (the great track 'Shut up and Let Me Go'), and then release a fresh, carefree album with Britpop influences, and you have The Ting Tings phenomenon. You could call it a recipe straight out from one of the major labels. And that it certainly is, but it's much more besides. It's hard not to surrender to this unpretentious and energetic pop/rock combo, in fact it's almost as difficult not to let it get you dancing and jumping around the room. It would be ungraciious to ignore the talent of Jules de Martino and Katie White - We Started Nothing is a disk tailormade for immediate enjoyment. BJ
