Leigh Bowery (1961-94), the Australian designer, performer, stylist, photographer, and giant of the London club scene during the 80s and 90s, is celebrated at this gay photo gallery with an exhibition of photographs taken by his friends Patrick Sarfati, Alex Gerry and John Claude Lagrèze during his lifetime. Bowery was always at the forefront of invention and subversion, using his sexuality and his own body as artistic tools. His extravagant, often outrageous costumes became a trademark of the blurring of boundaries and experimentation of late twentieth-century London's nightlife scene. Through photographs, Gerry chronicles this London of the night over a period of 20 years, Sarfati explores the representation of the masculine body, while the work of Lagrèze testifies to the subject's insatiable wealth of innovation.
