Bibimbap, part of 13€ lunch menu

Although located in tourist ground-zero this spotless restaurant in full view of the Notre Dame packs in a predominantly Asian clientele for some of the city's best Seoul food. The menu riffs through Korean classics such as a wonderfully spiced kimchi and has the best bibimbap (rice, cooked in a casserole with sautéed cucumbers, zucchini, beef and fried egg) on the Left Bank. The lunch menus at 10€ and 13€ are easily one of the best values of the moment. AM

Woody Allen is thought of in a very different light depending on who you talk to - a brilliant New York wit, a creepy cradle-robber, a biting comic, a misogynist, a neurotic intellectual. No matter what you think, la Filmotheque's retrospective 'Woody Allen en 20 Films' will only further muddle your idea - in the best of ways. His spectrum of work is vast in tone and content, from the bittersweet McCarthy-era critique The Front to the slapsticky satirical take on science fiction Sleeper to the nostalgia-filled reverie of Radio Days. It's the perfect way to beef up your knowledge beyond the classic-that-everyone's-seen Annie Hall (and almost enough to make you forget his recent cringe-inducing catastrophes like Scoop. Almost.) Be sure to see the Casablanca spoof Play It Again, Sam when it is issued at the end of June for a dose of hilarity and an eyeful of the ravishing young Diane Keaton. SM

Staff here reveal that a large number of their clients are Parisian. No need for a nod and a wink to know what this means: the discreet entrance and seductive contemporary rooms make it the perfect place if you’re looking for a little ‘cinq à sept’. After crossing the cosy lobby-salon with its free-standing gas fire and striking black, white and red decor, you ascend in a lift (with its own video screen) to one of the 24 rooms. There’s a choice of five colour schemes in glamorous nightclub shades – black, purple, orange, turquoise – plus a peaceful beige. All the rooms have magical lighting effects: fibreoptic stars in the showers and on the bedheads or ceilings, or desks that glow in the dark. You can even choose your room’s perfume from a selection of Diptyque essential oils. Our only criticism is it’s a long way from the Métro. AC

Nestled in a picturesque part of the leafy Latin Quarter, just over the road from the Seine and right opposite Notre Dame, this quaint haven has all the charm of an authentic ‘old-Paree’ hotel, and at a modest price. Perched over a bustling brasserie, the hotel greets you with the comforting sounds and smells of a thousand French meals. Push open the heavy front door and take your suitcase up the rustic staircase to one of the ten delightful rooms, each with exposed beams, original paintings and antique furniture. Two (47 and 501) have views over Notre Dame. There’s no reception area, the owner buzzes around the popular restaurant, and the place feels more like someone’s cosy home than a hotel.
