The Ethical Fashion Show is the foremost international event for ethical and solidarity fashion dedicated to sustainable development. Fashion makes people dream, but on a global scale, the fashion industry is first and foremost a huge market and an economic driving force for job and wealth creation. This prosperity can and should in turn become the catalyst for sustainable development and social justice and it is this that the Ethical Fashion Show strives for. For the fifth year running, Ethical Fashion Show is bringing together designers from the world over who all share the same goal: designing cutting-edge fashion which strives for a better world, a world which respects mankind, the environment, and the skills inherent to each culture. The show presents, designer wear, ready-to-wear, sportswear and streetwear as well as kidswear and accessories from brands including: Veja (France), Nu (France), Pachacuti UK), Article 23 (France), Royah (Afghanistan), Céline Faizant (France), Samant Chauhan (India), Ombre Claire (France-Niger), Moda Fusion (Brazil), Pau Brasil (Brazil), Carmen Rion, Carmen Fernadez (Mexico), Eco Logika (Australia) Titi Giuilfo (Peru), José Miguel Valdivia (Peru), Van Markoviec (The Netherlands), Göttin des Glücks (Austria)...

Based on Tim Burton's cult classic starring Johnny Depp Edward Scissorhands (1990), Matthew Bourne's (famous for his all-male version of Swan Lake) latest ballet converts Burton's strange gothic world of horror, fantasy and romance into a popular show for all the family. Edward is the ultimate outsider, expressing himself through movement rather than words; he is not unlike a silent movie actor, which lends itself perfectly to a dance piece. Danny Elfman's haunting original score forms the backbone to the ballet. TM

Rings for your wrists, and earrings for your neck... Maison Martin Margiela's first ever jewellery line is a magical mash-up, true to his avant-garde roots. The collection of 14 pieces continues his ‘XXL concept', and so includes bracelet-sized signet rings, and necklaces made out of unfeasibly magnified metal chain. The collection has been developed in collaboration with luxury but traditional Italian jewellers Damiani. Stunning, surreal, and with just a sprinkle of Alice in Wonderland silliness, the range will be available from November, only in Margiela stores. RR

Risotto, 25€.
This homey, modern little eatery located (literally) in the shadow of the Saint Roch church is one of the rare organic Italien restaurants in town (the other being their sister restaurant Cibus). Although empty the evening we dined there, the service was warm, and the chef kept poking his head out of the kitchen to see how things were going and to make suggestions. The pleasant decor is clean and modern, even though the Buren ceiling sculpture is a little bizarre. Dishes like calamari with zucchini and a balsamic reduction, and tagiatelli with cepe mushrooms were both winners, especially when washed down with a bottle of quality organic wine. AM

Founded in 1924, Maison Fabre has become synonymous with the finest, fun-nest handwear, and is sold all over the globe (well, in the nice, rich bits anyway). Only now though, some 84 years after its creation, has it opened its first stand-alone boutique under the sandy stone arches of the Galerie de Valois at the Palais Royal. Hands will be made very happy here: young ones (ditch stretchy magic-gloves and spoil your child with mini Maison Fabre), old ones (classic driving gloves have not been forgotten) and, of course, cold ones (the fur gloves are dazzling, if a tad impractical). Colette is always one step ahead. Which is why you should be the first to check out their newly revamped interior. Designed by Masamichi Katayama, a.k.a. Wonderwall, the store resembles its old self with a new clean design, white walls, bright lights and steel fixtures. The biggest change is the floor move, with streetwear brought up to the front of the store in a cube-like structure and an impressive sneaker wall. There you'll find all the limited-edition cult favorites including BBB/Ice Cream, A Life and A Bathing Ape (which has its very own area). Upstairs, the military of mannequins remains impressive, accompanied by accessories in vivid glass cabinets, but now there's beauty and jewellery there too, as well as a much needed new checkout, and the sunken section at the back is now dedicated to Colette's limited-edition international collaborations. Venezuelan Maria Luisa Poumaillou was one of Paris' first stockists of Galliano, McQueen and the Belgians, and has an eye for rising stars. Her new space regroups all women's wear and accessories - previously scattered over 3 spaces on the rue Cambon and rue du Mont-Thabor. The new modern space is clean in mostly white and gray, save for splashes of red, blue and yellow towards the rear of the store. Staple labels from Azzedine Alaïa to Balenciaga create a unique mix alongside young designers including Rick Owens and Christopher Kane. Manolo Blahnik is just one of the exclusives found in store. If you can't pony up for these designer threads, there's plenty to gawk at from the six impressive windows currently showing Autumn's penchant for LBDs. And keep in mind that menswear is just across the road too (38 de la rue du Mont Thabor). MM

Sweet deal. The renowned patissier Pierre Hermé has created two scented candles after reflecting on the similarities between his cake-making trade and that of perfumers. While that never really dawned on us, just one waft of the scents, ‘Sucre de Bois' and ‘Herb d'amandes' have us craving macaroons right about now. MM

Add Robert Normand to the hot list of designers entering the retail scene at the Palais Royale. It's the first freestanding shop from the designer with collaborations with Pucci and Lanvin under his belt, and known for his graphic work with pattern. The small boutique space boasts two levels with curving black-and-white striped walls and mirrors that hint at op art, while allowing the floral dresses from the current collection to steal the show. At last, the hyperactive London/ Paris style collective Kitsuné opens a store in Paris. With whitewash walls and lots of light coming in from the front and side windows, the cute space stocks their entire menswear and womenswear collections. What’s more, they’ve got an exclusive collection just for the boutique plus all the collaboration collections with the likes of Pierre Hardy, Evening dress Commun, Underwear Schiesser. And, of course, there’s their entire musical catalogue… MM
